Poroshenko publicly admitted that he would use captured Russian citizens as hostages
At the last moment, the Ukrainian side deliberately excluded citizens of the Russian Federation from the agreed list for exchange.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko stated this in a commentary to the Kyiv online newspaper “Strana”, answering the question why there were so many Ukrainian citizens among those who were given over to the DPR.
“We didn’t give anything to anyone. We made the release and, in our opinion, more efforts will be made today to pull our citizens out of Russian prisons and from occupied Crimea. For this reason, we did not give up a single Russian today. And more than 15 Russian citizens who are today in Ukrainian prisons should be aimed at bringing home Sushchenko, bringing home Sentsov, bringing home Kolchenko, Klykh. Many, many others. This should be a question that will unite the nation, just as today has united the nation,” Poroshenko said.
It is noteworthy that at the end he almost cried, but did not answer the question asked by the journalist about the citizens of Ukraine.
Let us note that among those who were refused exchange at the last moment, there are people who were “judicially cleared” in Ukraine, became free people and, as their lawyers emphasize, are illegally detained in filtration camps.
