It’s too early to write Poroshenko off
The real percentage of support for the current President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in the upcoming elections on March 31 will be higher than what opinion polls show.
Political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko stated this at a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is such a thing as “shy voters”; they are embarrassed to say who they will vote for. Usually these shy voters then vote for a populist or a representative of the opposition. A situation has developed in Ukraine in which many shy voters are embarrassed to say that they will vote for Poroshenko. Today, supporting Poroshenko is a rule of bad taste. But I am faced with the fact that many people support him,” the expert said.
“Poroshenko does not have his own Rostov, he has nowhere to run, he will not be accepted in the West. And so he knows that he has to fight to the end, and he will fight to the end. This is the difference from Yanukovych and, even more so, from Yushchenko. And if we compare the current campaign with the 2010 campaign, when everyone saw that Yushchenko had 5-6% and could be written off, today not a single “rat” has escaped from the “ship” - many people around Poroshenko are betting on him and not wagging their tail, not looking for a way to retreat. And this also shows that he should not be written off,” the political scientist emphasized.
According to him, there are many mechanisms that could lead Poroshenko to a second term.
