Petro Poroshenko signed the law “On amendments to certain laws of Ukraine regarding state support for combatants, persons with disabilities due to war and their children for obtaining vocational, technical and higher education” (No. 2300-VIII), a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

As stated in the message, the law is aimed at ensuring uniform principles for providing combatants (regardless of the grounds for granting the corresponding status), persons with disabilities due to war and children of state targeted support for obtaining vocational and higher education in state and municipal educational institutions.

“The law grants the right to state targeted support for receiving vocational, technical and higher education in such educational institutions to all categories of combatants, persons with disabilities due to war, and children. In particular, such state assistance will be provided to persons who took direct part in the anti-terrorist operation, including as part of volunteer formations, which were later included in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other legal military formations and law enforcement agencies, participants in combat operations on the territory of other countries,” the message said.

State targeted support for obtaining vocational technical and higher education is provided in the form of: full or partial payment for training at the expense of state and local budgets; preferential long-term loans for education; social scholarship; free provision of textbooks; free access to the Internet, database systems in state and municipal educational institutions; free accommodation in a hostel; other events approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Corresponding changes have been made to the laws of Ukraine “On the status of war veterans, guarantees of their social protection”, “On vocational education”, “On child protection”, “On higher education”.

The law comes into force on January 1, 2019.
