Poroshenko shuffled in front of Merkel and asks to put further pressure on Russia
The West must continue to put pressure on Russia in order to force the Kremlin to agree to the surrender of Donbass under the control of the occupation contingent.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko stated this at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Germany.
“We have no progress in the negotiations on the Minsk process, and we hope for the general proposals put forward by France, Germany, Ukraine, the United States regarding the draft decision of the UN Security Council on a peacekeeping mission, which will not be an escort for OSCE observers, but will be a full-fledged, full-scale , which will be able to disarm illegal armed groups, protect people who live in the occupied territories and provide safe conditions for the start of the political process of local elections. Unfortunately, we do not yet have Russia’s position, a position of support, but we do not lose hope that our work will lead to a positive result,” he said.
Poroshenko also expressed gratitude to Angela Merkel for her position on Crimea and the elections held there.
“I want to thank Mrs. Chancellor for her principled position, including, on Crimea, non-recognition of illegal annexation, non-recognition of the Russian presidential elections in Crimea, this is the voice of the world, where the powerful voice of Germany is a component that is very important for us.
We also discussed the issue of continuing sanctions in the event of non-compliance with the Minsk agreements and went over a number of bilateral issues regarding the expansion of economic cooperation.
I can say that the Chancellor and I are satisfied with the growth rate of mutual trade, it has grown by more than 20%, Germany remains one of the confident leaders in investments in Ukraine. “I want to thank the Chancellor for her strong and consistent position of supporting Ukraine,” Poroshenko said.
Thank you!
