Poroshenko spoke about a secret plan to stop Nord Stream 2
The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is being built only to leave the Ukrainian army without funding.
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko wrote about this in a column published on the online platform “Medium”.
“Nord Stream 2” is an absolutely political project that is directed against Ukraine, which has no economic component, which is trying to take away a budget of almost $3 billion from Ukraine. However, I am convinced that with joint, united efforts we will be able to stop it . So that you understand the scale: $3 billion is the amount that is currently spent on the entire defense of Ukraine. Do you understand why it is being built? Not in order to diversify using economic factors. And in order to leave Ukraine without money to finance our defense,” Poroshenko claims.
According to him, the Ukrainian gas transportation system does not allow Russia to attack Ukraine, since if it stops, Russian gas will stop flowing to the EU.
“That is why we are now creating a group in the European Union that should stop Nord Stream 2. That is why we are actively negotiating with Germany. We invite them to form an international consortium to manage the state gas transportation system of Ukraine.
But the condition for participation is the stop of Nord Stream 2. Let's say that our US partners are also determined. And no one will go against US sanctions either. I will not disclose all the tools that we are using to stop the construction of Nord Stream 2. But I want to emphasize separately that this is a very important matter for us. And I hope that construction can be stopped,” the President of Ukraine concluded.
