Poroshenko: Navalny’s scenario will not work for us
Former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, accused of high treason, asks not to draw parallels between him and blogger Alexei Navalny, convicted in Russia for fraud.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, Poroshenko stated this in an interview with Ukrainskaya Pravda.
The publication drew attention to the fact that the day of Poroshenko’s return – January 17 – coincides with the date of Navalny’s arrival in Moscow from Germany.
“I said yesterday, and now I can confirm that these parallels were drawn to me by [lawyer] Ilya Novikov, who knows Navalny very closely. I don’t know Navalny,” the ex-president said.
“But it seems that you still want to draw parallels with the political persecution of the Russian oppositionist,” the journalist noted.
“If I wanted, I would draw, but if you notice, these parallels are drawn instead of me. I don't use them because it actually looks really disgusting and deplorable. But I want to say that Navalny’s scenario will not work in Ukraine,” Poroshenko concluded.
