Poroshenko laughs at voters: nothing in the country depends on me
On the eve of the decisive second round of elections, Petro Poroshenko changed his propaganda line and began to strenuously assure the public that absolutely nothing in the country depended on him. According to Poroshenko, he would be happy to reduce tariffs, but this is not within the competence of the head of state.
He said this at a meeting with representatives of the UA Electoral Council initiative and the coalition of public organizations “Resuscitation Package of Reforms” in response to a question about tariffs, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I will answer absolutely clearly: I, together with the Ukrainian people, demand a reduction in tariffs - especially since this does not depend on the president at all. Well, if the people want it, we have to do it,” Poroshenko said, laughing.
“Now for the serious answer. Now for this, the market - not the president, not the prime minister, and not NJSC Naftogaz, but the market - has created the necessary conditions, therefore both spot contracts and contracts at hubs in Europe allow us to definitely not raise tariffs in May,” he added
Poroshenko recalled: “They scared us: that in May the tariff would be 10, 11, 12 - you’ll see! You'll see, it won't. And they lied."
“The government is ready for today, but I don’t want to take away either the government’s bread or its work... They themselves must report pleasant things. Although I should say on the eve of the elections: I did this... This is not so,” said the current president.
Poroshenko also added that the appointment or resignation of Andrei Kobolev from the leadership position of NJSC Naftogaz is also not within the competence of the president.
