Poroshenko and his “local church” made a mistake
Petro Poroshenko’s appeal to the Patriarchate of Constantinople about the creation of a “single local Ukrainian Church” mobilizes not only the nationalist electorate, but also supporters of unity with the Moscow Patriarchate.
Political expert of the public organization “Word and Deed” Valentin Gladkikh stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“All of this is an attempt to speculate on certain sensitive issues in order to maximize the mobilization of one’s potential electorate.
But those who did this made one big mistake - while trying to mobilize their electorate, they also gave their political opponents the opportunity to also effectively mobilize their electorate.
The “opposition bloc” blocked the podium, we must understand that they are also working for their electorate.
The question is more than debatable, which electorate will ultimately be larger - the one that supports conversion or the one that condemns the state’s attempts to interfere in religious issues,” the expert said.
