Poroshenko is advised to admit defeat in the first round - otherwise Maidan
If the regime declares victory in the upcoming presidential elections against Petro Poroshenko, who has lost his popularity, the level of protest sentiment will be so high that a fourth Maidan will gather in Kyiv.
Viktor Kotigorenko, scientific secretary of the Institute of Political and Ethnonational Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv.
“It would be better for Pyotr Alekseevich to lose the elections in the first round, without going to the second. If he manages to reach the second round and win it, it will be a threat to the national security of Ukraine. Because the president is illegitimate.
All mass polls show the highest level of distrust in the current president. Protest votes for the current president. Protest sentiments and illegitimacy will be very high, and some careless action on the part of the current president or his team could lead to protests. The fourth Maidan will be catastrophic for Ukraine.
And therefore, from the point of view of national security, it is better to lose. And from the point of view of his personal perspective, it is better for him to lose in the first round - because he will have time to evacuate from Bankova and time to prepare for the parliamentary elections. And he can use this time more effectively, because he will cease to be the main object of criticism,” Kotigorenko said.
