Poroshenko: The US is about to transfer two Island patrol boats to Ukraine
In early May, a group of US Coast Guard specialists will arrive in Ukraine to detail and, as expected, sign a contract on the transfer of two Island-class patrol boats to Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko at the ceremony of presenting certificates of water and road transport to the National Police of Ukraine, his press service reports.
“Given a number of incorrect publications in the media and social networks, I would like to take this opportunity to inform the public about the situation with the American Island-class patrol boats. “Zradophiles” have created so much fog, although here, in my opinion, everything is extremely clear. The Ministry of Defense is undergoing internal government procedures to complete and approve the draft contract that we received from the American side. It is tentatively planned that a group of US Coast Guard specialists will arrive in Ukraine in early May for final details and, I hope, signing of the said contract,” Poroshenko said.
He added that, according to the preliminary conditions, the specified boats will be transferred free of charge, and preparation, additional equipment and transportation will be carried out at the expense of the Ukrainian budget.
“There the amount will tentatively be more than $10 million. But at the same time I want to inform you that from the very beginning a decision was made on the advisability of concluding this contract,” Poroshenko emphasized.
He also said that a few weeks ago a group of 36 military sailors was selected who successfully passed the exams and would soon go to Baltimore (USA) for training.
