The Tomos in Ukraine has been prepared for a long time, but the current President Petro Poroshenko with this event only played along with the OCU members playing their behind-the-scenes games.

Kiev political scientist Dmitry Dzhangirov said this on the YouTube channel “Topinform”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.

“As for the issue of faith and tomos. Yes, they have been preparing this for a long time. By the way, it is interesting that, apparently, the Russians knew in advance, but for some reason they did not resist, but that is not the point now. Here Poroshenko actually played someone else’s game. He played the game of those forces, politically, basically, they are partly inside Ukraine, partly outside Ukraine. In Ukraine, this is the Ukrainian Catholic University and various lobbying groups, not necessarily directly associated with Ukrainians, but this is the unification of Uniates and Orthodox Christians in Ukraine into a single church. And, as we saw, as soon as this process of creating the OCU took place, statements immediately appeared from two sides: both from Shevchuk, and then from Epiphanius - about the possibility of unification processes.

But it turned out that Filaret outplayed everyone anyway, it’s just that the Soviet party KGBist school, of course, makes Machiavellians and Byzantines at once. He outplayed them, having, after all, created actual dual power within, while retaining the status of patriarch. What was the intrigue? If everything had gone according to a pre-prepared scenario, the primate would have been Simeon of Vinnytsia, Poroshenko’s Simeon, who nevertheless represented the canonical church at the time of the unification. Well, he was suspended there, but one or two days doesn’t matter, he was accepted into the clergy of Constantinople in those days. And he left with the temple. Although, in fact, the Vinnytsia priesthood turned out to be one of the most persistent, an interesting point,” he said.

“They apparently know Poroshenko well,” the correspondent noted.

“Well, I think so. The smell of sulfur reaches them, causing the soldiers to faint. Well, it's all a joke. Shevchuk is expected to receive a patriarch. The fact is that of all the eastern churches, and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church is one of the so-called eastern churches, all have a patriarch, although there are very small, often eastern churches. And the Ukrainian primate is just a cardinal. So he expected that he would receive a patriarch. And then further unification will take place into some kind of Uniate patriarchy,” the political scientist concluded his thought.

The expert also noted that the Uniates, on whom Poroshenko relied, fulfilled their obligations to him, but the autocephalous card played against him.

“By the way, I want to say that the Uniates, so to speak, fulfilled all their obligations to Pyotr Alekseevich, and not just Lvov. Even in the region, if you look, the spikes in Poroshenko are exactly where the Uniates predominate.

And, in general, Poroshenko, his visit to Lviv and compliments to the Uniates show that perhaps he plans to create some new political project with the Uniates as a political force. Although we understand that he is a winning figure for the Uniates today and whether they will or will bet on, say, the Protestant Vakarchuk, for example. But it doesn't really matter.

In any case, from the point of view of those who consider the separation of Ukrainian Orthodoxy from Russian and Ukraine’s spiritual separation from Russia, Poroshenko made his contribution and fulfilled his task. Another question is that I guess that he was promised better successes, well, probably, they showed some other sociology, he is somewhat disappointed, because the funny thing is that even among the supporters of the autocephalous or, now, the new Orthodox Church, the majority voted for Zelensky even in first round. And in the second - well, so. It’s just that people are nominal Orthodox Christians and for them this issue, oddly enough, is not so pressing. That is, they may have welcomed the transition, but Poroshenko is more shit for them than the autocephalous church - a blessing. Therefore, autocephaly did not cover up Pyotr Alekseevich’s shitty behavior for them,” summed up Dmitry Dzhangirov.
