Poroshenko makes eyes at voters
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is flirting with voters, talking about his intention to break the friendship treaty with the Russian Federation.
Political scientist Sergei Bykov stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The current president’s statements about the denunciation of the friendship treaty with the Russian Federation are nothing more than a certain flirtation with the voter and an attempt to declare himself as a defender of Ukraine. Why hasn't it been denounced yet? Why did we wait until the moment when the deadline ends?” the expert asked.
He noted that back in 2014-2015 there were initiatives to denounce certain parts of the agreement, but the country’s leadership stated that the agreement could not be terminated, since these were Ukrainians who were on the territory of the Russian Federation, and in the end the initiatives were never submitted to parliament.
“Perhaps so that we can further develop economic cooperation. According to the results of 2017, a third of investments came from the Russian Federation. Perhaps because the denunciation of such an agreement could prevent the leadership of the Ukrainian state from doing business in the aggressor country. Or because those officials who are in close ties with the Russian Federation could not conduct their own activities so effectively. Today, just before the elections, such initiatives are being voiced,” Bykov noted.
