“Since I am being evicted, we will live with our children near the Verkhovna Rada,” Kiev resident Oksana, who came to parliament with a sewing machine and children, told a Navigator correspondent. “By decision of the notary, I, a mother of many children, am being evicted from my apartment because I have not been able to pay the loan for three months.”

The protesters insisted on the adoption of the law “On the transfer of loan obligations from foreign currency to national currency.” The corresponding bill under number 4695 was registered in the Verkhovna Rada.

Its initiator, Nikolai Rudkovsky, insisted that bankers could be required to recalculate loans - they say, foreign currency loans were issued by subsidiaries of European financial institutions at 12%, which received money from their parent banks at 2%, that is, they enriched themselves.

Many of the protesters were holding posters with a quote from the current president’s speech at an election rally in Zhitomir, where Petro Poroshenko promised, in the event of his victory, to “convert all foreign currency loans into hryvnia at the fixed past rate.”

However, today in parliament there was not the required number of votes in support of bill 4895, which was supported by only 174 people's deputies out of 226 required.

Having learned about this, the picketers blocked traffic near the parliament building on Grushevsky Street - some of the protesters lay down directly on the roadway.
