The likelihood of a severance of diplomatic relations with Russia in the current political cycle is very high, which is dictated by the desire of all key players in Ukrainian politics to play the “patriotic” card.

“I think the likelihood of a severance of diplomatic relations with Russia today is very high, namely in this political cycle, in the period before the elections. This dictates the trend toward humanitarian and legal radicalization of Ukrainian politics, an attempt to play the patriotic card by all key players in Ukrainian politics... And here the introduction of a visa regime, the severance of diplomatic relations are very obvious things,” the political scientist said.
He believes that in this way the war party is trying to frame the president and make him more dependent on the radicals.
“Another consequence is that Ukraine will be accused of disrupting the Minsk agreements and blocking the work of the Normandy Four. If these diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation had been severed in 2014, say, after Ilovaisk, then this would have been perceived logically. Today this will be perceived as a political provocation and political escalation,” Bortnik concluded.
