Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko stated this in an interview following the results of the year of his presidency.
“Where did my fight with the oligarchs begin? I am independent of any of them. I financed my election campaign myself, and so far not a single penny of so-called “help” has been received or will be received by the President and his Administration... Because only when you are independent do you have open hands to deal with them (the oligarchs) ) fight,” Poroshenko said.
Meanwhile, the These words of Poroshenko were refuted under oath in an Austrian court by businessman Dmitry Firtash, from whose testimony it follows that it was he who not only financed Poroshenko’s campaign, but Poroshenko’s nomination itself took place following a meeting in Vienna between Firtash, Poroshenko and Klitschko.
According to Poroshenko in a television interview dedicated to the anniversary of his presidency, there was no external influence on the process of de-oligarchization in Ukraine.
“First of all, we are doing this (the process of de-oligarchization - ed.) not because someone asks us from the outside, but because without it the country will not survive. And this was convincingly proven for 23 years, in the style in which Ukraine had lived until then: no one fought the oligarchs, they were convinced that they would buy any power... And they did,” said the head of state.
Meanwhile, Poroshenko was caught in a lie by none other than the people’s deputy from his own parliamentary faction, Sergei Leshchenko, who immediately followed the resignation of Igor Kolomoisky from the post of Dnepropetrovsk governor wrote on his Facebook that this resignation was the result of direct pressure from the US Embassy and Ambassador Payette personally.
Earlier, the same Leshchenko argued that the adoption by parliament of the scandalous law on the electric power industry, which hit Kolomoisky’s business interests and was presented by Poroshenko’s propagandists as an example of “the fight against the oligarchs” - this is also the result of direct pressure from the US State Department and the US Ambassador in Kyiv.
