Even buying votes can no longer save Poroshenko
The presidential elections in Ukraine may repeat the scenario of 2010, when the then-current President Viktor Yushchenko did not make it into the second round at all.
Political scientist Kirill Molchanov expressed this opinion during a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, Yulia Tymoshenko definitely gets into the second round, and from three to five people are vying for the second.
“This is a remake of the 2010 elections, when the incumbent president may not get into the second round at all. So far, Poroshenko’s team is doing almost everything that Yushchenko’s team did and, in fact, is confidently following the same path. I am skeptical that any buying [of votes] can change anything significantly.
Firstly, because for a successful purchase, local support is needed in the form of not only the head of the district administration, but also the presence of a local police chief, and Avakov takes a slightly opposite position to the president and, in general, does not really want to participate in his machinations. Secondly, we understand perfectly well that it is possible to organize the buying of votes in a single majoritarian district, but throughout the country this, to put it mildly, will lead to sabotage on the ground,” Molchanov is convinced.
