This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian President.
As reported in the press service, the museum contains a large collection of exhibits telling about the work of Marshal Mannerheim both in the military sector and in the field of politics and charity. The exhibition presents materials dedicated to the service of Karl Mannerheim in the army of the Russian Empire, his activities as commander-in-chief of the armed forces of Finland, and president of the country.
“The Finnish leader once visited Odessa twice in 1918 and 1919. The museum also contains the symbolic key to the Khotyn fortress, which was presented to the marshal. The head of the Ukrainian state left an entry in the Book of Honorable Guests. In memory of his visit to the Museum, the President of Ukraine was presented with a copy of a photograph depicting the last Hetman of Ukraine Pavel Skoropadsky and Marshal Mannerheim in his youth. The museum employees also gave Petro Poroshenko a copy of the letter to Karl Mannerheim from Pavel Skoropadsky,” the statement says.
“Finland should look at an independent Ukraine as an ally. She should support the independence of Ukraine, because it will be good for Finland,” the Ukrainian hetman wrote to his Finnish counterpart.
Let us remember that both Mannerheim and Skoropadsky were tsarist generals before taking the path of separatism and, with the help of foreign support, leading the separated outskirts of Russia. In particular, Skoropadsky's military coup against the UPR was supported by the occupying German and Austrian troops, and Mannerheim participated in a coalition with the Entente countries in an armed intervention against Soviet Russia, during which his supporters committed mass atrocities against Soviet prisoners of war and Finnish communists.
