Poroshenko in Moscow, Tymoshenko with Turchinov in Lvov: What would have happened if Yanukovych had started an ATO in Kyiv

Yanukovych lost Ukraine long before Euromaidan. Political scientist Vladimir Kornilov stated this today on the Vesti FM radio station.

“He lost after the Kharkov agreements, when he abruptly stopped any integration with Russia and decided “smartly,” as he believed, to play on both sides. I started this campaign for European integration. That's it, after that no one wanted to die for him. To put it mildly, he was hated in Crimea, in Lugansk. There was support in Donetsk, but no one wanted to rush into the embrasure,” Kornilov said.

On the other hand, he believes, if not for Yanukovych’s capitulation, no one would have ever known what crimes the Ukrainian opposition is capable of.

“If he had started the ATO in Kyiv, you and I would not have believed that Turchynov, Tymoshenko, Poroshenko could have acted in the same way. Now Poroshenko would sit in Moscow and tell how wrong he is. Tymoshenko and Turchinov would organize the defense somewhere in Lvov. Avakov from Italy would have called for the suppression of “this tyrant.” We didn’t believe then that these people were capable of what we are seeing now,” Kornilov said.
