“Look at the strong and fantastic support we have in the United States right now. I arrived today on my first visit since the presidential elections. And we have a fantastic program... It is very important that my meeting, as the Ukrainian president, in the White House will be earlier than Putin’s,” Poroshenko said.
According to him, this is necessary so that “everyone is armed with information, and no one is left with a single chance for injustice.”
According to Poroshenko's press service, "Ukraine has very strong bipartisan support in the US Congress."
The Ukrainian side calls the decision on new sanctions against Russia “a wonderful gift.”
“Sanctions are a civilized mechanism to force the aggressor to leave Ukraine, withdraw troops and equipment,” notes Poroshenko’s press service.
“There will be meetings at the White House, there will be meetings at the State Department. There will be meetings at the Ministry of Defense, at the Ministry of Commerce, at the Ministry of Energy... Never before has there been such a powerful visit. And precisely so that we have the opportunity to negotiate on our cooperation in the security, political and economic spheres,” Poroshenko assures.
Poroshenko’s loud words have already been refuted by his recent comrades in the Maidan camp. The American side does not plan full-fledged negotiations between Poroshenko and Trump, said Verkhovna Rada deputy and former head of the presidential chancellery Viktor Baloha.
“Poroshenko’s speechwriter is wishful thinking about the importance of the meeting between the President of Ukraine and Trump... The President feeds us fake news about a “fantastic” summit meeting in the United States, and from there they just smile and offer to “drop in” to say hello... This noodles won’t cause a war ends, and Ukrainians will not live better. To lie beautifully is the only thing they have learned in three years in power,” writes Baloga in his blog.
