Poroshenko chose forceful suppression of dissent

DenisovDenis Denisov, political scientist, Kyiv-Donetsk

Ukrainian media are actively promoting the idea that the changes to the Constitution of Ukraine proposed by Petro Poroshenko supposedly solve almost all the problems of the country’s internal political life and are a compromise between the Kyiv authorities and supporters of Novorossiya.

However, considering Poroshenko’s proposals, the discrepancy between what is stated and what is actually being becomes obvious. As we know, at the beginning of the confrontation in the East of Ukraine, representatives of the militia put forward two main demands to the Kyiv authorities: 1. Federalization of Ukraine; 2. Giving the Russian language the status of a second state language.

Subsequently, as we remember, there was a referendum on the separation of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions from Ukraine and the proclamation of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics.

As a result, bloodshed has been going on for several weeks now, provoked by the Kiev authorities, who reject the possibility of negotiations and a truce with the real leaders of the DPR and LPR (as we know from the statements of Kiev politicians, in particular Yuriy Lutsenko, in the Shuster LIVE program dated July 11.07.2014, XNUMX, the Kiev truce the authorities used it not to establish dialogue, but to regroup and arm themselves, with one goal - to suppress the confrontation in the East by force).

In the context of this, the changes to the Constitution of Ukraine proposed by Petro Poroshenko are nothing more than an attempt to “chatter” the basic demands of the citizens of Eastern Ukraine. His proposals contain formal changes in the structure, but do not spell out methods for real budgetary, humanitarian, political decentralization (or federalization, as you prefer) of Ukraine.

It should be noted that the issue of increasing the status of the Russian language does not appear in the president’s proposals at all, and given the fact that a significant part of Poroshenko’s team is afraid of this topic like hell, it can be assumed that the president’s skilled media specialists will try to remove this topic from the socio-political agenda .

Based on the above, the conclusion suggests itself: Petro Poroshenko initially understood that neither the proposed changes to the Constitution of Ukraine, nor the so-called “peace plan” (which is actually an ultimatum) are capable of satisfying the citizens living in Donbass and the leaders of the DPR and LPR, but is only capable of cause protest and indignation. And now, using a calculated but completely natural reaction, Poroshenko is going to suppress dissent by force.

Another thing is that, most likely, the presidential team still has not realized that with such actions it is creating all the prerequisites for the outbreak of a guerrilla war throughout Ukraine.

I would like to recall the recent examples of Belfast, Basque Country, Corsica and invite the authorities to think about whether they are ready to plunge Ukraine into a constant hotbed of tension, terror and murder.
