This is discussed in Poroshenko’s address, published on the official website.

“At twenty-two hours on Monday, June 30, the unilateral ceasefire expired. As part of the plan for a peaceful resolution of the situation in Donbass, such a step was first initiated on June 20. On June 27, Ukraine continued it for another three days,” Poroshenko recalled.

“For ten days, we have demonstrated to Donbass, Ukraine, and the whole world our commitment to a peaceful solution to the conflict provoked from outside. We demonstrated the good will of the Ukrainian authorities to the residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions,” the President of Ukraine asserts, emphasizing that the Donetsk and Lugansk residents “felt our sympathy, love and respect.”

“They saw Kyiv’s sincere readiness to take into account their special opinions and specific interests. And they realized that their safety is our main priority,” Poroshenko said.

According to him, international support for Ukraine has become even stronger.

“It was during the ceasefire that I signed the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area with the European Union,” he recalled.

“However, the unique chance to implement the peace plan has not been realized. This happened due to the criminal actions of militants. They publicly declared their reluctance to support the peace plan in general and the ceasefire in particular. Defiantly, more than a hundred times, they violated the ceasefire regime. The political leadership of the separatists has demonstrated their unwillingness and inability to control the actions of their terrorist units and gangs of marauders,” said the President of Ukraine.

“The cancellation of the decision of the Federation Council to allow the deployment of Russian troops in Ukraine had a positive, but symbolic meaning. We have not yet received concrete steps to de-escalate the situation. Including in terms of strengthening control over the border,” Poroshenko believes.

“Despite this, peace has been, remains and will be my goal. Only the tools to achieve it change. On the evening of June 30, a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine took place. After discussing the situation, I, as Supreme Commander-in-Chief, decided not to extend the unilateral ceasefire,” the head of state said.

According to him, the Armed Forces, the National Guard, the State Border Service, and the Security Service received corresponding orders.

“In implementing the tasks set today to protect territorial integrity, they are no longer limited by the ceasefire. We will advance and liberate our land. Non-extension of the ceasefire is our response to terrorists, militants, and looters,” the Ukrainian president said in his address.

“The Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard and other units will never allow themselves to use force against civilians. They will never hit residential areas,” he said.

“I appeal to every resident of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions with a request to treat my decision with understanding,” Poroshenko called.

“To everyone who has taken the path of armed resistance to the legitimate government, but realized that they made a mistake and want to correct it, I, as president, guarantee that they will not be held criminally liable. There is only one condition: to voluntarily lay down your arms. Our peace plan, as a strategy for Ukraine and Donbass, remains in force. And disarmament. And decentralization. And free use of the Russian language. And the restoration of lost housing at the expense of the state. And a joint program with the EU to create new jobs. And we are even ready to return to a ceasefire at any moment,” the President of Ukraine repeated his earlier promises.

As Navigator reported, Maidan demanded from Poroshenko not only an end to the truce, but also the introduction of martial law. It is possible that by not introducing martial law, Poroshenko left room for maneuver: negotiations with representatives of the DPR and LPR will most likely continue.
