Poroshenko announces record spending on the army - but still nothing to brag about
Ukraine's military budget must be increased. The amount of UAH 146 billion announced by the government is insufficient. Former Minister of Economy of Ukraine Viktor Suslov stated this on the air of the Ukrainian TV channel “112”.

“The figure of UAH 146 billion was announced. But this is still not enough. Those who watched the exhibition on Independence Day may have noticed that Ukraine can only boast of old Soviet technology. There are almost no new developments. The rearmament of the army is proceeding very slowly. This indicates an insufficient level of its combat capability,” Suslov said.
He believes that it is necessary to focus on technical renewal and rearmament.
“Not to mention the fact that Ukraine completely lacks modern aviation, there are problems with air defense. If we are preparing for a real war, we must do it more responsibly,” Suslov added.
At the same time, he found it difficult to name how much money the Ukrainian army needed.
“The country must give the maximum of what it can give. Because it is impossible to completely stop funding the social sphere. The military budget is ready to absorb the entire budget of Ukraine. But this is impossible,” Suslov said.
