Hungary blocked the meeting of the “Ukraine – North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)” commission on defense issues, which was supposed to take place on February 14-15, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

This was announced by the Ambassador of Ukraine to NATO Vadim Prystaiko.

“This is not the first time that Hungary has blocked a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO commission at the ministerial level. And Hungary took this into account and officially declared that it would block all events that are held at a level higher than the level of ambassadors, that is, my level. This time, the victim was a meeting at the level of defense ministers, which, in our opinion, is absolutely unacceptable, given that the last time the ministers met with our minister in this format was in 2016,” Prystaiko said.

The ambassador added that the alliance's allies are also not satisfied with the current situation.

“I am aware that 11 ambassadors of NATO member countries sent a letter to their Hungarian counterpart, which contained that NATO is not “a stage for playing out such a drama.” For this purpose, there is – and we used this mechanism – the “Venice Commission”, which provided its recommendations, which Ukraine pledged to implement. We believed that the Hungarian side understands that this is the only authoritative body whose opinion is listened to,” he added.

In addition, Prystaiko said that next week (February 12-18) this issue is expected to be raised by President Petro Poroshenko during his meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

Let us recall that after the adoption by the Rada of the scandalous law on education in Budapest, they announced that they would block any Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Ukraine until Kyiv reconsiders the provisions that infringe on the rights of national minorities.
