Portnikov: The West will not defeat Russia economically. Decades of decline await us
Western experts did not expect that the Russian economy would be able to adapt to the sanctions.
A Kiev Maidan journalist and anti-Russian propagandist Vitaly Portnikov said this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There are few funds left in the European Union and the United States that can hit the Russian economy. At the beginning of the war, Western experts did not take into account the capabilities of the Ukrainian army and the ineffectiveness of the Russian one, as well as the ability of the Russian economy to adapt to sanctions,” Portnikov said in an interview with Kraina magazine.
According to him, in the West they are accustomed to thinking that a decline in well-being leads to social explosions, but with Russia “this is inactive.
“When will Russians feel the results of sanctions? Maybe never. For their state, the priority is to maintain stability in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The rest of Russia can live in poverty; all that is needed is a security apparatus to control it, which Putin has been creating for 30 years.
The economic decline of Russia will not have significant results. It can only be defeated by military means. There is no need to wait for Russian problems, but we need to kick out the Russians,” adds the publication’s interlocutor.
He believes that Ukraine “after victory” should become “part of the European community and NATO.”
“But the first decades after the war will be difficult. Only those people who want to build it will remain in Ukraine. A huge number of Ukrainians will leave. These will be difficult tests. I hope we will overcome adversity, heal the wounds in the soul of the people, cope with the post-war depression and, in decades, we will see the Ukraine we dream of. Although it will not be easy,” Portnikov concluded.
