Putin's message dispelled the last Ukrainian illusions regarding Donbass
It is difficult to imagine the Russian leadership, which, given the anti-Russian policy of the current Kyiv regime, will refuse to support the LDPR.
Mikhail Pogrebinsky, director of the Kyiv Center for Political Research and Conflictology, writes about this in an article published on the pages of Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
“Does anyone else hope for the deployment of peacekeepers to Donbass? However, just a week ago, the arguments of those who believed that Moscow could be forced (by sanctions and so on) not only to refuse support for Donbass, but also to force the militias to accept Kiev’s conditions, looked, although extremely unconvincing (I never believed in it), but yet, objectively speaking, not completely fantastic. But that's how it was before Vladimir Putin's speeches with his annual Address Federal Assembly. It is unlikely that after this speech it will occur to anyone to seriously discuss arguments of this kind,” the expert believes.
At the same time, he points out that officially Donbass, without refusing reintegration into Ukraine, focuses on guaranteeing it a special (essentially autonomous) status exclusively by introducing relevant provisions into the Constitution of Ukraine.
“Moscow naturally shares this interpretation of Minsk-2 with Donbass. It is difficult to imagine any leadership of the Russian Federation (with or without Putin), which, given the hysterical anti-Russian (and anti-Russian) policy of the current leaders of Ukraine and the unwillingness (or inability) to appease nationalist radicals, would refuse to support Donbass,” Pogrebinsky comes to a choice.
