After the Maidan, Ukraine was gripped by fear
The 2014 coup in Kyiv caused fear among people from different regions, including those who opposed the Maidan.
People's Deputy of Ukraine Mikhail Dobkin stated this at the court hearing in the case of Yanukovych's treason, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The politician said that at the congress of deputies of local councils in Kharkov at the end of February 2014, he spoke with many deputies from the South-East.
“We also had guests from central Ukraine, from the Ternopil region. A huge number of people, especially from those territories where nothing had yet been captured, were afraid that something irreparable might happen. They were also afraid of physical threats to their lives and their families. The footage that spread throughout the country when these buses with Krymchaks were being destroyed only confirmed these fears. People from the Party of Regions are not titushki, most of them are women, they went to Kiev, participated in rallies, and it turned out that one of these detachments that left us ended up in the midst of the confrontation, when many people died.
Those who were secured got lost - some abandoned them, some got confused, people got there as best they could on their own. According to stories, people were stopped on the streets, their registration was checked, if their registration was in Kharkov, they were subjected to not very pleasant procedures. I think these are isolated cases, however, they did happen. And people had reason to fear the worst-case scenario. Moreover, many politicians also provoked this situation by constantly escalating it - now, they are already a force, and therefore all those who disagree in this country will be taught to live differently,” Dobkin said.
