After the failure with autocephaly, Poroshenko wants to disrupt the religious procession in Kyiv
Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople will not grant Ukraine the right to create an autocephalous church this year, although the country's President Petro Poroshenko loudly announced this event.
Political scientist Kirill Molchanov stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Obviously, this year there will be no tomos. The situation there is completely sad. After Bartholomew toured some of the local churches, none of them have yet spoken out in support of Ukraine. I doubt that Bartholomew will make a personal decision, because this could lead to a split not in Ukrainian, but in world Orthodoxy. He doesn’t need it,” Molchanov said.
In order to divert attention from the situation with autocephaly, the authorities are whipping up hysteria around the traditional religious procession of the canonical UOC on the Day of the Baptism of Rus'.
“Most likely, this year’s hysteria is due to the fact that the authorities want to underestimate the number of participants in the procession from the UOC, but on Saturday, the 28th, supporters of the Kiev Patriarchate will be brought in almost by car to show that there are many times more of them. Statistics for past years show that there are many times more supporters of the UOC.
Therefore, everything is aimed at, on the one hand, reducing turnout, and on the other hand, covering up the negative connotation, the absence of this tomos,” Molchanov said
