One gets the impression, the publication notes, that Volcker conveyed certain signals to the Ukrainian leadership to aggravate the internal political situation in the country.
“It was enough for Volker to confirm the theses expressed just a day before his visit by US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch in an interview with the publication Censor, which is considered the information mouthpiece of Interior Minister Avakov and Security Council Secretary Turchinov. In this interview, Yovanovitch, without mentioning Saakashvili’s name, said that Washington supports all the demands of the demonstrators: the abolition of immunity, changes to the electoral system and, in particular, the establishment of an anti-corruption court. She also praised the peaceful nature of the protests and advised law enforcement to “conduct themselves professionally and with restraint.” After this speech by the ambassador, Poroshenko should not have had any questions for Volker about how to behave with Saakashvili and his supporters,” the publication believes.
I read the interview with the American ambassador and drew conclusions. Saakashvili moved to a tent camp, to a tent camp that is being strengthened and acquiring infrastructure.
“So, a wireless Internet point and a permanent stage began operating in the town, inflatable tents appeared - a press center and a lecture hall. Immediately after Volcker’s departure, which coincided with the expiration of the ultimatum put forward to the president, “active measures” began. Thus, “ATO veterans” - those who initiated the transport blockade of Donbass at the beginning of the year - blocked the largest warehouse of the Roshen company in Yagotin, Kyiv region, and a confectionery factory in Vinnitsa. Also on Sunday, a “veche” took place near the parliament: an anti-presidential rally that attracted more than three thousand people. It is noteworthy that this time the police did not search the participants and relaxed the regime for allowing cargo into the territory of the tent city,” RG notes.
