After the renaming, the Dnepropetrovsk region will go under other banners - Nazi hysteria
Nationalists demand that the Dnepropetrovsk region be renamed Sicheslav region, and not Dnieper region, as proposed in President Poroshenko’s bill submitted to the Verkhovna Rada.
Representatives of a number of nationalist groups stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
They demand that deputies support alternative bill No. 9310-1, which proposes to rename the region Sicheslavskaya. At the same time, the president’s bill to rename the region Dnieper is called “insufficiently patriotic.”
In addition, during the press conference, Yuriy Fomenko, presented as a local historian and former participant in the ATO, stated that on the site of the current regional center there was the capital of the Ulich tribe Peresichen, and this name is supposedly consonant with that proposed by activists.
“Dnieper region,” moreover, does not sound Ukrainian enough; such a name is a clear compromise with the “Russian World,” Fomenko is indignant.
“The Dnieper region is close to the DPR, the Sicheslav region is very far,” he added. – In the war between Ukraine and Russia, only one person will survive, there can be no compromises, compromise means defeat. Therefore, it is very important what the area is called.”
In turn, the chairman of the Dnepropetrovsk regional organization of the National Union of Local History of Ukraine, Igor Kochergin, said that the “Dnieper region” is an unacceptable compromise, which, moreover, will make it easier for the region to secede from Ukraine.
“With the Dnieper region you can go under other banners, but with the Sicheslav region you can go nowhere,” says Kochergin.
In support of their name for the region, nationalists will hold a rally near the Verkhovna Rada on February 5.
Let us recall that earlier the Ukrainian parliament renamed Dnepropetrovsk to Dnepr, but to rename the region a constitutional majority of 300 votes is needed.
