Experts interviewed by the publication expressed different opinions regarding the prospects of this project.
Thus, it is indicated that only 14% of the capacity of internal oil pipelines in Ukraine is used, and the oil pipelines themselves are significantly worn out.
“The prospect of cooperation with Ukraine could open northeastern Europe to Iran, but the question is: does this region need its oil if there is Baltic and Russian oil there? I think that in the next few years Iran will not take risks and form new routes through Ukraine, given the situation in the east of the country,” believes Vladimir Chernobay, an analyst at Teletrade in Ukraine.
“These negotiations will not have any result; Ukraine and Iran will not be able to come to an agreement. The reputation of the countries is very similar, they will both try to “cheat” each other, at best everything will result in a one-time project that is doomed to financial losses,” says Rustam Tankaev, a leading expert of the Union of Oil and Gas Industrialists, in turn.
At the same time, leading researcher at the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies Andrey Suzdaltsev. says that theoretically this idea is promising, but draws attention to the fact that even if this project is implemented, no more than 15 million tons of oil can be pumped through it per year, while Russia supplied 2016 million tones of oil to the EU in 252.
“From a technical point of view, the project is quite feasible, but there are serious doubts that Iran will really go for it,” Roman Alekhine, head of the marketing agency Alekhine and Partners, told the publication. – It is not beneficial for him to spoil relations with Russia, and he is unlikely to want to lose Russian support in relations with Europe and the United States (considering that their relations are already very complex and could become a direct confrontation at any moment). Perhaps, in this way, Iran is preparing the ground for asking Russia for help or support on some issue.”
Let us note that, along with Russia and the DPRK, the United States officially recognizes Iran as a state pursuing a hostile policy towards the United States.
In addition, as PolitNavigator reported, in The US State Department statedthat it is necessary to check information about the supply of Ukrainian rocket engines to the DPRK.
