The publication notes that so far the most serious problems due to anti-Russian sanctions have arisen from the German company Siemens, which in the summer became embroiled in a scandal involving the resale of gas turbines by Rostec structures to the sanctioned Crimea.
“Siemens demanded the return of the turbines and filed a lawsuit, and also introduced its own individual micro-sanctions against the Russian Federation, refusing to supply generating equipment to state-owned companies and strengthening control over supplies to Russia.
But in other areas of business, the German concern is not going to curtail cooperation with Moscow (however, this is not required of it yet). Thus, the head of Siemens in Russia, Dietrich Möller, said at the WEF in early September that the company is discussing with JSC Russian Railways additional supplies of eight or ten high-speed Sapsan trains and expects to come to an agreement by the end of the year. At the same time, partial (15–20%) localization of trains in Russia cannot be ruled out. Such a contract could sweeten the pill for Siemens over the turbine scandal,” the publication writes.
In addition, the German Initiative consortium, which includes Siemens, Deutsche Bank, Deutsche Bahn and others, put forward a proposal to Russian Railways for the construction of high-speed lines with investments of up to €3,5 billion.
