After the article in PolitNavigator, Donetsk residents thank “Taiga” even on the streets
Published in January 2018 on PolitNavigator article about Poltava resident Vladislav Zhuk released from captivity, the call sign “Taiga,” which warned Novorossiya about flights of punitive fighters from the Mirgorod airfield, caused a wide resonance.
The caring pensioner had the opportunity to learn from his own experience what kind of people live in Donbass and what their gratitude means. Hundreds of people responded to the article, not only residents of Donbass, but also Russians and CIS countries. Civilians of the LDPR, military personnel, and militias responded.

The scale of the reaction is quite understandable - in May-July 2014, Ukrainian fighters not only caused significant damage to the militia, but also literally terrorized the civilian population of Novorossiya: they regularly struck streets, residential buildings, and other civilian objects. Hundreds of ordinary people died, classified as “terrorists” by the Kyiv camarilla.
“Sushka” is a flying tank, it is a formidable weapon; a masterpiece of Soviet engineering. But no one in the USSR could have imagined that the fire potential of combat vehicles would be used to shoot up residential buildings. The punitive forces did not hesitate to destroy houses along with civilians with the help of aviation, and entire entrances collapsed and dozens of civilians died.
Fortunately, by the second half of August 2014, Ukrainian aviation suffered irreparable losses. This is a significant merit of Vladislav Zhuk, who promptly warned the militia.
After the release of the material, “Taiga” suddenly realized, to his own embarrassment, that he had become famous. At first, caring people found a pensioner who became disabled in Ukrainian captivity on social networks and began to find out how they could support a person whose deed was considered heroic.
Soon Vladislav Zhuk realized: even though it was his first time in Novorossiya, he had his own, practically family, people around him. Ordinary Donetsk residents began to come to the Taiga hostel: someone brought homemade pie, someone brought materials to improve the room, all possible financial assistance... The extremely difficult life of a recent prisoner of war and his elderly comrades in misfortune began to gradually improve.
“I was very surprised when strangers started stopping me on the streets, because I am a stranger in Donetsk. It turned out that no - the residents of Donetsk, who read my story on PolitNavigator, began to recognize me by sight. They began to stop me, thank me, and ask me what they could do to help me,” says Vladislav Zhuk.
Having learned about the difficulties that “Taiga” had to face after being released from captivity, the soldiers of the 1st Slavic Brigade literally took patronage over the elderly man. They brought the necessary household appliances; provide assistance with food and medicine. In general, we found it possible to express gratitude to the man who saved the population of the LDPR from air raids for three months, and then suffered for three years in the secret prison of the SBU, in the Kiev pre-trial detention center, on the “krytka”...
After three years of torment, Vladislav Zhuk finally found himself among like-minded people. There is faith that now everything will be fine for “Taiga” - with the help of caring people, life in Novorossiya will gradually improve. “Taiga” also really hopes for help from officials: he asks to speed up the processing of documents a little, without which Vladislav Zhuk cannot receive treatment or receive a pension.
