On the eve of the decisive second round of elections, Petro Poroshenko’s team is bursting at the seams, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

As the Kiev publication “Ukrainian News” reports, citing sources in the Presidential Administration and legal circles, Petro Poroshenko dismissed his right-hand man Alexei Filatov, who oversaw the judicial system, from his duties as deputy head of the Presidential Administration.

“The dismissal decree has been signed - it is in the office of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine,” said a source in the AP.

According to one of the sources, Filatov was fired due to his resignation. Filatov lost his position due to the fact that he failed to cope with the assigned tasks. The source claims that the official is currently abroad.

According to the publication's sources, the dismissal decree will be made public only on April 21. This is attributed to the reluctance to sow panic among the president’s circle.

“This is both a reluctance to escalate the situation before the second round and the need to ensure the activities of judicial reform with the current curator,” the source emphasized.

The actual desertion of one of Poroshenko’s key officials was confirmed by ex-deputy head of administration Andrei Portnov, who held a similar position during the time of Viktor Yanukovych.

“Deputy head of Poroshenko’s administration Filatov resigned and left. You can't be so cowardly. If you have come a long way in this team, you cannot leave at such a moment. In the last days, you need to go with your boss to the end and lose together. A bad deed,” Portnov wrote in his Telegram channel.

In addition, Portnov draws attention to the demonstrative distancing from Poroshenko after the first round of his godfather and Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko.

“Friends, am I the only one who thinks that after the first round the Prosecutor General abruptly stopped campaigning for Poroshenko?” Portnov wrote.

The ex-official also commented very skeptically on the significant changes in his team announced by Petro Poroshenko.

“The team could really be strengthened. At the first stage, you may need a good extradition lawyer, and a little later you can hire a prison doctor,” Portnov quipped.
