Street violence has plagued the United States since the election
While lawyers are fighting over the results of the US presidential election, supporters of one candidate or another have begun to clash in the streets.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, Kommersant writes.
“While lawyers are fighting battles in courtrooms, ordinary Americans are gradually moving to clashes in the streets. In New York, thousands of people marched down Fifth Avenue. People took to the streets in Los Angeles, Seattle, Houston, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, San Diego and other cities. In the city of Phoenix (Arizona), a group of supporters of the president demanded an explanation for deceiving voters near the election commission in Maricopa County,” the article says.
It is also noted that in some places the situation is more serious.
“For example, in the city of Portland (Oregon), authorities declared popular unrest a riot: opponents of the president and Republican demands for a recount of votes took to the streets and began breaking windows and causing pogroms. State police forces were given the right to use tear gas, although city police were prohibited from using it. Governor Kate Brown also ordered the use of National Guard forces to maintain order,” the publication reports.
At the same time, in Seattle, Washington, opponents of the Republicans also took to the streets, but their march - with signs like “Stop the attempt to steal the election” - was mostly peaceful.
Let us remind you that the election results have not yet been summed up. So far, incumbent President Donald Trump is lagging behind his rival Joe Biden. At the same time, the head of the White House accuses his opponents of falsification.
