About this in interview Alexander Gauland, leader of the Alternative for Germany party, which, judging by polls, may become the third most important political force in the Bundestag following the results of the upcoming elections, told Izvestia.
Germany has always lived well during the period of good relations with Russia. Therefore, we must reintegrate the Russian Federation into European politics and talk to it as an equal partner. Normalization of relations with Russia is the most important precondition for long-term peace in Europe, and the AfD will do everything in its power to ensure that this awareness takes root again in Germany,” Gauland emphasized.
At the same time, he is convinced that the West will have to “come to terms with the fact that Crimea will never be Ukrainian again.”
“The head of the FDP, Christian Lindner, for example, recently essentially advocated the status quo. He received a lot of criticism for this, but I am sure that more and more German politicians will come to recognize the position that the AfD has taken from the very beginning,” said the German politician.
He also spoke out against Western anti-Russian sanctions.
“We will advocate in the Bundestag to lift sanctions against Russia and once again deepen economic cooperation. Sanctions have proven to be ineffective. They did not return Crimea to Ukraine, and they harmed everyone – not only the Russian economy, but also German business,” Galand concluded.
