UN blue helmets may appear in Donbass after elections to the Verkhovna Rada – media
Moscow - Kyiv, September 29 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Stamm) - The declared ceasefire regime is not being observed, and therefore Malaysia is going to appeal to the UN with a demand to send a peacekeeping mission to eastern Ukraine, NG reports.

This intention, as reported by Ukrainian news agencies, was recently announced by Malaysian Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai. He explained that Kyiv cannot guarantee an international group of experts safe working conditions at the Boeing crash site in the Donetsk region. The group, by decision of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, includes specialists from those countries whose citizens were victims of the plane crash - Malaysia, Australia and the Netherlands.
Last week, the representative of the Malaysian police mission, Khalid Abu Bakar, said in an interview that, despite the declared truce, the fighting has not stopped, and the place where the plane crashed is mined. In such conditions, there is a constant threat to the lives of international experts. The policeman did not rule out that the investigation could be postponed until spring.
However, experts note that within six months, much evidence will be lost. In addition, there are no guarantees that the situation in Donbass will fundamentally change. Although representatives of Ukraine, Russia, the OSCE and the self-proclaimed republics sign joint documents on the settlement, they perceive the situation differently.
The international experts sent to investigate the Boeing crash are not interested in the subtleties of how individual negotiators perceive the situation. They demand that the Ukrainian side, recognizing the Donetsk region as its territory, ensure safe working conditions. Since Kyiv cannot do this, Malaysia (as the country whose plane was shot down in the skies over Ukraine) is going to appeal to the UN with a demand to send peacekeeping forces to the conflict zone. Liow Tiong Lai said: "We will ask the UN to act quickly so that an investigation can be carried out."
It is noteworthy that only last week, during the first big press conference as president, Petro Poroshenko said that Ukraine does not need peacekeepers. “There will be no peacekeeping contingents, since the experience of using peacekeeping contingents in Transnistria and in other frozen conflicts has led to states losing sovereignty over this territory. There will be no peacekeeping troops on the territory of Ukraine,” he said.
An NG source in Kyiv noted that UN peacekeeping forces cannot be deployed without the country’s request and consent. “A lot depends on the president; he is responsible for our defense and foreign policy. But the Verkhovna Rada makes the decision. In mid-July, immediately after the Boeing crash, deputies were ready to vote for an appeal to the UN with a request to introduce blue helmets into the region. At that moment, Poroshenko’s team opposed it, fearing that in this case the parliamentary elections would be disrupted. Now the situation has not changed. But it may change immediately after the elections,” the source explained.
