After Poroshenko’s statement, residents of the border regions of Ukraine feared for their future
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, speaking in Chernignov, told local residents that “testing of the latest missile weapons” would be carried out in their region.
“Moskovsky Komsomolets” writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It cannot be said that this news greatly pleased the residents of the Chernihiv region, which borders Russia and Belarus. Having a perfect idea of what the “precision and power” of local weapons means, the Chernigov residents were seriously afraid for their future. If the “newest weapons” do not tear them apart near populated areas, then at any moment a “high-precision missile” will fly to the neighbors. And then you can wait for an adequate answer,” the publication writes.
At the same time, Igor Korotchenko, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine, says that Russia is ready for retaliatory measures.
“If in fact these tests take place, they will, of course, be monitored. And measures will be taken to protect our airspace. The goal is to neutralize the threat, so if missiles cross the border, they will be destroyed in our airspace,” Korotchenko said.
At the same time, the editor-in-chief of the Aerospace Review magazine, Sergei Reznichenko, noted that without cooperation with Russia, the degraded defense complex of Ukraine is not able to produce either ballistic or cruise missiles today.
“They need to create new industrial capacities and train personnel. All this requires more than 10 years of hard work. But Ukraine has neither the resources for this nor the desire of the country’s political leadership to spend money on this - they would rather appropriate this money for themselves. According to the latest data, some parts for missiles were transported from Russia using “gray schemes”. It is unclear how many they managed to import, but in any case, even if they make several missiles, they will not pose any threat to Russia. We have a powerful missile defense system,” Reznichenko emphasized.
