September 30 marked two years since the start of the military operation of the Russian Armed Forces in Syria. The presence of our troops was approved by the legitimate government of Syria, which found itself in a hopeless situation - Damascus was practically under siege, almost the entire territory of the country was overrun by detachments of ISIS militants and other Nusrach, and the few pockets of resistance to terrorists were threatened with liquidation due to communications and supplies being disrupted by bandits. The terrorists who blocked the city of Deir ez-Zor captured the rich oil fields in the area and gained enormous resources in their hands to continue the war.

In addition, the legitimate government of Syria was under powerful pressure from the United States and its allies, who demanded Assad’s departure, otherwise threatening airstrikes under various far-fetched pretexts. Syria's powerful enemies had their own economic and geopolitical reasons for wanting the destruction of the secular government and the dismemberment of a country friendly to Russia. In addition to the big prize of control of Syrian oil, the Obama administration received money and an order from Qatar to destabilize Syria in order to build a gas pipeline to the Mediterranean coast to Europe. Among the main sponsors of terrorists and potential beneficiaries of the Syrian disaster are Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

Syria did not have a single chance to withstand the onslaught of this ghoul alliance: it did not have enough resources, its own military and economic power. True, with the help of Russia it was possible to stop certain threats. For example, skillfully conducted negotiations with the Americans on the destruction by the Syrian side of stockpiles of chemical weapons and precursors for their production knocked out of the hands of the “hawks” the main trump card, which they were going to use for a military invasion of Syria.

Despite this, the stranglehold around Assad and his country was slowly but surely tightening. Russia simply did not have the right to allow Syria to fall into chaos along the lines of Iraq and Libya. In addition to the mortal threat to a friendly country, Russia had every chance of getting a new round of terrorist war on its own and neighboring territories. Especially in the “soft underbelly” of the former Soviet republics of Central Asia and the Caucasus.

As in the case of Afghanistan in the late 1970s, Russia's choice was where to face the war - in its own home or on distant approaches. Thus, while doing a good deed and diverting trouble from friendly Syria, Russia at the same time protects itself in this Middle Eastern country.

The country's Aerospace Forces became the strike force of the operation. Gradually, special operations forces, advisers, military doctors, sappers, military police, as well as electronic warfare and air defense units joined them. Actively participates in reducing the number of Syrian barmaleys and the Russian Navy. Strikes on infrastructure and concentrations of militants with Caliber cruise missiles came as a surprise not only to the bearded men, but also to their overseas patrons.

The participation of the Russians in the ground operation was dictated by the need to conduct in-depth reconnaissance of enemy targets and target designation of the air forces, since there was simply no time to prepare the Syrian special forces. As soon as Syrian troops began to take control of the territories liberated from gangs, work was found for Russian sappers, as well as for military police and doctors.

Russia's entry into the war against terrorists allowed the exhausted Syrian Army troops to get a long-awaited respite, regroup, and establish communications and logistics. Considering the nature of the war, Russia supplied government troops with both modern weapons (T-90 tanks, TOS Solntsepek, ATGMs, communication systems, etc.) and outdated, but quite suitable military equipment from storage bases (T- 62 and T-72, trucks, cannon artillery and mortars, MLRS “Grad”, “Uragan” and “Smerch”).

In addition to weapons, Syria is receiving the necessary assistance to restore war-damaged infrastructure. First of all, life support systems for the population, food production, as well as repair, restoration and even production of military equipment and ammunition.

The operation in Syria allowed the Armed Forces and the Russian military-industrial complex to test and test modernized and new models of military equipment in real combat conditions. In particular, the new SVP-24 bomb sight for Russian aircraft turned out to be so successful that it allowed the use of conventional bombs as precision weapons. Its use seriously reduced military costs and saved the lives of civilians living in the occupied territory.

In order to monitor the condition of new military equipment and, if possible, make adjustments to it on-line, a camp of Russian gunsmiths was deployed at the Khmeimim airbase. Effective strikes by the Aerospace Forces also contributed to awakening interest in the purchase of Russian weapons.

The experience of the Afghan war was taken into account. Having proven in practice their strength and determination to bring the war to a victorious end, the Russian military in Syria organized a Center for the Reconciliation of the warring parties. Scattered units of the armed opposition, not included in the militants of ISIS, the al-Nusra Front and similar scumbags, were asked to lay down their arms and move on to a political dialogue with the central government, or sign their own death warrant by getting an unexpected surprise in the form of a bomb, missile, charge “Tornado”, or, even worse, find yourself in the epicenter of a local hell from “Solntsepok”.

One of the key points of the military operation of Russian troops in Syria is the absence of the “Islamic international” factor. After the start of the Afghan war, many of our “allies,” including the Palestinians of Arafat, the Egyptians and the Libyans, took up arms against the USSR, which spoke out in defense of the Arab and other countries of the Middle East, and went to fight for the dushmans. In Syria, in addition to the Russian contingent, government troops are receiving significant assistance from Iran, the pro-Iranian Hezbollah group and, until the last moment, the Kurdish Peshmerga. China also indicated support for the legitimate Syrian government and the actions of the Russian military in this country.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, in two years the Aerospace Forces made more than 30 thousand combat sorties, conducting over 97 thousand targeted air strikes. Navy warships and submarines fired 9 missile salvoes, firing 70 Caliber cruise missiles, including from the Caspian Sea.

From NATO analytical reports it follows that 40 Russian combat aircraft stationed in Latakia carried out 75 combat sorties a day, invariably delivering targeted and effective strikes against terrorists, while the 180 combat aircraft at the disposal of the “international coalition” reported only 20 daily destroyed militant targets, often returning to bases with unspent ammunition.

Thanks to the brilliant work of the Russian Aerospace Forces, together with ground forces, 54 thousand terrorists were sent to meet with Satan and more than half of the territory of Syria was liberated. Taking into account the fact that the main thing in war is communications and logistics, in the first year of participation in the war alone, the Aerospace Forces dealt destructive blows to 184 oil refineries and almost 10 thousand other facilities for oil production, storage and refining, including fuel tanker columns, thereby depriving the militants economic support.

The well-aimed strikes of the Aerospace Forces forced the ISIS terrorists to almost completely stop their savage shows with demonstrative killings of prisoners and hostages.

With Russian military assistance, control of the Syrian government was restored over sections of the Syrian-Iraqi and Syrian-Jordanian borders (180 and 195 km, respectively). The country was able to breathe and begin to restore peaceful life. More than 140 thousand refugees returned to their homeland. The liberation of Aleppo alone saved more than 100 thousand civilian lives. Cities are being restored in full swing, peasants have again begun to sow and harvest crops.

Unfortunately, war is impossible without losses. According to official data, the losses of the Russian military in Syria currently amount to 38 people, including two female doctors. The Aerospace Forces lost three aircraft, including a Su-24 shot down by a Turkish fighter, as well as five helicopters.

The results already obtained prove that Russia’s entry into the war on terrorism in Syria was not only justified, but also brought serious political dividends to our country. In addition to eliminating the immediate terrorist threat, Russia has managed to become a key player in the Middle East. A delicately played game with Turkey helped to overcome the incident with the downed plane and avoid a military conflict, which the Americans persistently sought. Now Turkey is at odds with the United States, while its relations with Russia have moved to a different level - the Turks have agreed to the construction of a gas pipeline along the bottom of the Black Sea and are buying Russian air defense systems. Turkey also seriously thought about the fact that the war in Syria is not leading to the result that was expected there.

Of course, there are still a lot of problems, but they, compared to those two years ago, do not look so impressive. Of course, the barmalei will snap back - the Americans, in addition to supplying Tow anti-tank systems, began supplying the bandits with MANPADS, and, worse, information appeared that the American intelligence services and military took over the planning of operations with scraps of ISIS. The vile way in which Russian General Asapov was killed on a tip from the Americans suggests that the last battle for Syria will not be easy.
