Ambassador of Austria: “Conditions in Moscow are better than in many EU countries”
The epidemiological situation in the Russian capital is more stable than in the European Union.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reported this in an interview with Kommersant.
Austrian Ambassador to Russia Johannes Aigner, answering the question whether any EU country could allow Russian citizens to enter earlier than others, provided the epidemiological situation improves.
“Especially in times like these, it is important to maintain the cohesion of the EU, in particular the countries of the Schengen area. And the normalization of the situation in Austria itself is still far from normal: for now, there is a fairly strict lockdown in the country until December 8, and unfortunately, I don’t yet see any possibilities for the normal functioning of the tourism industry, its opening for Russian tourists,” the diplomat said.
“It turns out that you, as an Austrian, enjoy much more freedom here in Moscow than you could afford at home?” the publication clarified.
“Yes, indeed, we have better conditions here than in Austria or many other EU countries. Restaurants are open in Moscow, and, which is especially pleasing, I even receive invitations to the theater. As far as I understand, the authorities are planning to introduce additional measures to avoid a second lockdown. And I really hope that the epidemiological situation will allow this,” Aigner said.
