Ambassador of Belarus: Lukashenko is ready to refuse recognition of Crimea for the sake of Ukraine
The Ambassador of Belarus to Ukraine, Igor Sokol, could not decide whose Crimea belongs, but assured of support for the “territorial integrity of Ukraine.”
He stated this on the air of the Ukrainian TV channel “Nash,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the diplomat, recognition of Crimea as part of Russia will depend on how the Ukrainian authorities treat the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.
“The position of the President of the Republic of Belarus will depend on the position of Ukraine. We see that Ukraine has completely radicalized in relation to the Republic of Belarus over the past year and a half. Therefore, all subsequent actions of the President of the Republic of Belarus will be retaliatory steps to the actions of the Ukrainian authorities...
We have never questioned the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the sovereignty of Ukraine, but we must proceed from realpolitik. In your question you asked a traditional question that is heard on almost every corner. This is probably not entirely correct - we must proceed from real politics. This is the meaning of diplomacy - we need to realistically evaluate the facts.
Whether Alexander Grigorievich admits it or not, whether he will go there or not, it depends only on the actions of the Ukrainian authorities,” Sokol said.
