The EU Ambassador directly advised the Ukrainian authorities not to even mention membership in the European Union

About it EU Ambassador to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli said in an interview with DW.
“This issue (Ukraine’s membership in the EU - Ed.) is not on our agenda, frankly speaking. And I don’t think anyone should raise this issue,” the ambassador said.
Mingarelli noted that today the EU’s mission is to assist reforms, modernize Ukraine, establish the rule of law, create an effective government apparatus, carry out land reform and privatization.
“If we work seriously on these challenges for several years, Ukraine will do a lot to move closer to the EU and improve the living conditions of its population... The remaining issues should not even be raised - this will only create illusions on the Ukrainian side and difficulties on the EU side,” - Mingarelli emphasized.
