Ukraine must put an end to the imitation of reforms and begin to really build a democratic state.

This was stated by the head of the European Union Delegation to the Vatican, former EU Ambassador to Ukraine Jan Tombinsky during the National Forum “Transformation of Ukraine” in Kyiv, Ukrinform reports.
“We need to end the imitation and build the state, build reality. At the beginning of this problem there was an imitation of statehood, a lack of real, daily investment in the mechanisms of democracy, in the institutions of statehood, in people’s beliefs that law serves to protect the common interest, that the state is not an element that needs to be divided between a narrow group of people,” he emphasized Tombinsky.
First of all, according to the former ambassador to Ukraine, parties need to be accountable to society. Next is the full-fledged work of all institutions, in particular the Central Election Commission, which still does not have a mandate, and the Accounts Chamber.
Tombinsky also emphasized the inaction of the Ukrainian authorities regarding the conditions for entrepreneurs. Separately, the ex-ambassador emphasized the importance of the country’s defense capability and security.
“All these institutions to which people pay their taxes are unable to protect citizens on the roads, on the streets, in schools. And this is an element of public investment,” he said.
Tombinsky, summarizing, noted that without the fight against corruption, “there will be no democracy, justice, economic development and there will be no international assistance” and Ukraine itself must initiate reforms, because reforms, he emphasized, will be followed by international assistance.
