The Ambassador of Latvia admitted that Ukraine is not developing
It will be possible to talk about the “return” of Crimea to Ukraine only when the standard of living in the neighboring Kherson region is much higher than on the peninsula.
Ambassador of Latvia to Ukraine Juris Poikans stated this on the air of the Direct TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the diplomat, there is no point in talking about the “reintegration” of the peninsula in the coming years.
“Undoubtedly, this is a difficult region. It is clear that Crimea plays a big role in Russian mythology, historical and in general, and it is clear that it is very difficult to expect changes in the next few years...
When life in Ukraine will really improve, when a resident who will cross this administrative line between Crimea and the Kherson region today will see that life has improved so well in the Kherson region that there is a feeling that Ukraine is developing. Today there is no such feeling - I just recently visited the Kherson region.
Ukraine should invest financial resources especially in those regions that border either Russia or other countries. So that there is a feeling of this difference,” Poikans said.
