Kiev, July 04 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Lithuanian Ambassador to Kiev Petras Vaitiekunas shocked the audience on Friday evening, speaking on Savik Shuster’s show, where he stated that the return of Crimea is not a priority for Ukraine - the success of the former Soviet republic is possible without peninsula.

Vaitiekūnas stressed that what is happening in Donbass is a conflict with Russia, and not a problem of separatism.

“There is a war going on. This is not separatism. The armed forces of your eastern neighbor are behind this,” he said.

The ambassador compared the conflict between Ukraine and Russia to a situation where a schoolboy is attacked by a bully, which is “three times his size.”

The diplomat believes that in this situation Ukraine should not count on Western help.

“Big men stand around and say: you, hooligan, will feel bad, you are behaving incorrectly, but we will not go to war against you,” he explained.

Therefore, the Lithuanian ambassador believes that Ukraine should not fight for the return of Crimea in the near future - it is more useful to concentrate on reforms.

“You need to understand that the student has already won - he will go home beaten, do his homework, and tomorrow he will go to school, where he will be the first student. That's where the victory is. You need to fight, defend, but your success will be when you do your homework on the association, when it is implemented, when reforms are made. This can be done without Crimea. Success can be achieved without Crimea,” Vaitiekūnas said.

“What country do you, excuse me, represent? Give Lithuania to Russia! And achieve success! Give Russia half of Lithuania, give Vilnius and achieve success! Here are the advisers - give up Crimea! I will give you Crimea!” – MP Oleg Lyashko, present in the studio, boiled.

“You misunderstood - Mr. Ambassador said that it is possible to carry out reforms and show Crimea that the country can develop successfully, and then Crimea may return on its own,” Shuster tried to calm passions.

“An example is South Korea, which is divided with North Korea. She never forgot her brothers, but South became an example of success, an example of the highest technologies,” the diplomat continued his thoughts.

“Mr. Ambassador, it seems to me that the success strategy you propose is unacceptable for Ukraine! According to your logic, let’s give everything away and build success in Kyiv or Lvov,” Lyashko interrupted him again.

“Don’t you need success?” – Vaitiekūnas clarified.

“We need success in a united Ukraine!” - Lyashko shouted.

“The success of Ukraine is possible without Crimea,” the Lithuanian ambassador said again, adding that “the occupation will end anyway, but not now.”

“That’s who advised Poroshenko to declare a truce. It would seem that we are our friends! – Lyashko complained.
