This opinion was expressed in an interview with the Ukrainian Week weekly by US Ambassador to Kiev Geoffrey Pyatt, who is convinced that there will be no Cold War 2.0, since Russia is not the Soviet Union, and the United States is not “in a state of existential confrontation” with the Russian Federation.
“Perhaps the most important factor that distinguishes the Russian Federation from the Soviet Union is its attachment to the global economy,” the American diplomat believes. – We are all hostages of world markets. Look how they reacted to Moscow's illegal actions. Look what's happening with oil prices. As much as anyone might want to return to Cold War rhetoric, we are convinced that Russia and its globally connected economy should benefit from a politically stable Ukraine that is experiencing economic growth and integrating with European institutions.”
