The US Ambassador personally shields the leader of the Maidan activists from the ridicule of the Serbian press
US Ambassador to Belgrade Kyle Scott personally criticized the Serbian tabloid Informer, which the day before published critical material about the visit to the American diplomatic mission of one of the leaders of the pro-Western opposition, Boško Obradović.
On his Twitter account, the ambassador called this article “unacceptable”: “There are many ways to report on the same event. "I wish all tabloids would practice professional journalism and stop their cynical attempts to manipulate and deceive their readers with cheap, scandalous headlines," Scott wrote.
Apparently, the head of the diplomatic mission was especially offended by the title of the publication: “Boško Obradović – Scott’s “errand boy.”
According to the editor-in-chief of the publication, Dragan Vucicevic, the “assault” of the US Ambassador is proof of the correct editorial policy.
“Scott has been openly working against the state interests of Serbia for several months, and we regard his attack on Informer as the best compliment to the publication,” Vucicevic said.
The US Ambassador has a long-standing dislike for this portal. So, back in May 2017, he allowed himself insulting words against Informer employees, calling them “lying scum.” Moreover, he did this publicly, during a lecture “Serbia and the United States of America - cooperation and prospects” at the Faculty of International Politics and Security in Belgrade, answering a question from a journalist for this publication.
Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said at the time: “This is unacceptable treatment of journalists. No one has the right to insult the media and, first of all, this applies to foreign diplomats.”
