The US Ambassador named the main achievement of Ukraine
Speaking at the II International Conference on Maritime Security, US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch supported the actions of the Ukrainian side during the incident in the Kerch Strait and recalled that the United States is already providing Ukraine with support in the implementation of its naval strategy, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Ukrainian naval strategy is a major achievement. This is more than just a document: it represents a decision and a commitment to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. The United States supports Ukraine's right to do so, and we will continue to stand with the people of Ukraine against Russian aggression.
And our support is not only in words. I could go through a long list of things I promise not to do about the types of support we've provided to the Ukrainian Navy over the past few years.
We will soon deliver two Island class boats; we have begun a multi-phase project to provide radar systems; and sharing data with US Navy sites to improve Ukraine's ability to monitor maritime space; the infrastructure that Admiral Voronchenko spoke about at several Ukrainian naval installations that we are helping; naval exercise Sea Breeze, held for the eighteenth time; and of course, the naval presence in the Black Sea, agreed with NATO, is about 250 days a year of US or NATO presence in the Black Sea. We are also proud to have provided some assistance in the development of the maritime strategy that was presented and announced at this conference.
These and other steps, I think, demonstrate the seriousness of our commitment, and we are now considering additional ways in which the United States could help Ukraine further develop its maritime capabilities,” she said.
