US Ambassador to Ukraine John Pyatt stated this today during a visit to a polling station in Kyiv, 112.ua reports.
“I am convinced that the most important impetus for the fight against corruption in Ukraine to be effective should not come from the United States or the EU. The most important thing here is the pressure from the Ukrainian people themselves, because the Ukrainians suffered great sacrifices during the Maidan and then even greater sacrifices during the war with Russia. These sacrifices were not made in order to preserve the system that existed under Yanukovych. These sacrifices were made in the name of Ukraine becoming a more European state that lives by the rule of law, a goal that the United States fully shares. Let’s see what happens after the elections,” he said.
On October 12, 2015, Massachusetts Senator from the US Democratic Party Elizabeth Warren announced that the activities of the Ukrainian government will be assessed by the United States based on the results of the fight against corruption.
