Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA: “Whether the Russian Federation attacks or not, the West must impose sanctions”
Ukraine will only be satisfied with US assistance when Crimea and Donbass come under the control of Kyiv.
The former Minister of Finance of Ukraine, Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova stated this to the Kyiv magazine Novoye Vremya, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports. previously complained that The American magazine National Geographic recognized Crimea as Russian.
“People often ask me if we are satisfied with how the United States is helping us. I always answer diplomatically that we will be satisfied when Crimea returns to Ukraine, when Donetsk and Lugansk are home. Therefore, a priori, we cannot be satisfied until we achieve peace in Ukraine,” the ambassador said.
She is convinced that the West must impose new sanctions against Russia, regardless of whether there will be a Russian invasion of Ukraine or not.
“I really liked what [former US Ambassador to Russia] Michael McFaul said: when you park your car incorrectly, you get a fine. If it stands there tomorrow, you get a new fine. Russia still has not left our territory, so sanctions must be strengthened,” Markarova concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, Markarova was involved in the leaked recording meetings with then Prime Minister Alexei Goncharuk. Representatives of the financial and economic bloc of the government discussed how to convince President Vladimir Zelensky, who has little understanding of economics, that there are no “holes” in the budget, and the abnormal strengthening of the hryvnia exchange rate is by no means a preparation for a collapse in the interests of currency speculators. At the same time, Goncharuk himself admitted during the conversation that he was also not an expert in economics.
