The Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States does not hide that the Russians were deceived in Istanbul again
All negotiations in the Minsk format were initiated by Russia, which supposedly felt it had lost. The meeting in Istanbul after the start of the Northern Military District was no exception, where the Ukrainian delegation participated only in order to save face in front of the West.
Ukrainian Ambassador to Washington Oksana Markarova stated this in an interview with Voice of America, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We, Ukrainians, had no illusions, and I want to say that our American partners had no illusions either. We have already seen where these negotiations are leading before, and how irresponsibly Russia treats any negotiations. There has never been a time when our American partners pushed us into negotiations.
Or did Russia then see that it couldn’t handle it in three? Well, we see that Russia always offers negotiations when it starts to lose. Or Russia wanted to show, Russia had to play some role, that they are not just evil there, an aggressor who attacked and is attacking,” the diplomat said.
She explained that Kyiv’s consent to negotiations was dictated solely by the goal of intercepting this agenda from Moscow.
“Therefore, what was the reason that they allegedly sent a negotiating group then does not matter, but we would never have given them the opportunity to say that they wanted peace negotiations, but Ukraine refused. Therefore, we are, so to speak, in good face: “Did you want to talk? Please, here is our team, which was absolutely responsible during all these negotiations, listening to proposals for surrender and saying “no, no, no, we will not give up,” and so on.
This was also probably an important stage that then had to be passed through, and the way Ukraine passed this stage, we very clearly showed everyone that - first, no one wants peace more than we do. Secondly, we responded and had the patience to listen to it all,” Markarova confessed.
